This is a must have for the motion picture devotee. His music amplifies all the action taking place on the screen. This John Williams collection brings back memories of your favorite movies. He is no doubt the best composer hollyhood has ever seen and possibly the best of any composer working today.
And most are performed by the London Symphony Orchestra. This CD has all the hits (well almost all of 'em) that you associate with John Williams. It is a wonderful compilation.
I play it in the car every chance I get.Thank you. I have loved John Williams' music for years. So, when I couldn't get my son to burn a CD of it, I turned to Amazon.com, and received just what I wanted.
It took me being an idiot, and selling this CD some years ago, and then reclaiming it again just tonight in order to realize what a beautiful collection of music this really is. It's right in front of me, and I just decide to buy it. Williams really is. being broadcast on TV and heard the sweeping "Flying Theme" playing in the background.
This is just a solid set of beautiful, orchestrated, and memorable music that is a journey through time, memories, and great movies. I then get home, and allow myself to relax and be blown away as the Star Wars theme begins to play. Stuff from Star Wars, E.T., Hook, Jaws, Indiana Jones, among many others permeate this beautiful experience. Honestly, what more could one ask for. I still listened to the themes from the movies and whatnot that I did not recognize, and I still liked a good majority of what I listened to, the JFK theme in particular was powerful. Seriously, this set shows off the amazing scope and depth that John Williams has, while it doesn't have every last one of his amazing compositions, it still shows what a fine composer Mr.
From there, it's a journey through time, and memories as I recognize more than half the compositions on this 2-disc set. For the price, this set does justice to the legacy of the man who is, in my books, one of the greatest modern classical composers of all time. I will start off by stating that I started yearning for the set again after I saw a preview of E.T. The next thing you know, I'm off looking for this set, and bam.
For lovers of movie themes, this is the best and most complete album I've listened to. This double disk album represents the greatest music of modern cinema. I am waiting impatiently for a new album with more recent themes like Geisha, and Harry Potter. It is also played by amazing orchestras like London Symphony and Boston Pops, which are always a delight to hear. John Williams is an absolute genius and you can literally see the movies run before your eyes while listening to the soundtracks. All of his greatest work up to 1999 is on this album, with popular themes like Star Wars or Jurassic Park and less known pieces like Summon the Heroes.
